Buyer’s Guide for LED Parking Lot Lights

RSS

LED parking lot lighting is among the safest and most eco-friendly options when it comes to energy efficiency. As far as choosing the right fixture for your lighting project, there are a few variables to keep in mind such as the voltage and mount type. Here’s a handy LED light buying guide to make sure you are getting the right product for your needs!

What is LED?

When it comes to parking lot lights, one of the biggest questions is “What is LED?” Well light-emitting diodes, or LEDs for short, are a type of light source that comes from an array of light-emitting diodes in order to produce light. When retrofitting parking lot lights using a one-to-one setup, LEDs typically use a lower wattage than existing metal halide or high pressure sodium fixtures, which equates to additional electrical savings and eligibility in rebate programs!

Why Should I Use LED Parking Lot Lights?

There are countless reasons for choosing LED Parking Lot lights, such as:

Cost

LED fixtures don’t need to be replaced as often as HID lights, as most LED parking lot light fixtures are rated for a lifespan of 50,000 hours, or about 5.7 years, versus the average metal halide bulb only lasting between 6000-15,000 hours.

Energy Savings

LED parking lot lights are up to 70% more efficient than their HID counterparts, with only 5% of the energy that is produced wasted as heat. This allows for the fixtures to burn longer and still keep the same light output, unlike metal halides, which start to dim over time.

Safety

When it comes to parking As traditional parking lot lights grow dimmer with age, they also bring more safety concerns at night. Crime rates and vehicular accidents can occur in parking lots that aren’t properly illuminated. Having LED parking lot lights will keep your parking lot brighter for longer due to their efficiency and output, which will help keep visitors safe and crime at bay!

Options to Consider When Purchasing LED Parking Lot Lights

Several options to consider when choosing LED lights for parking lots are as follows:

  • What is the pole height?
  • What is the shape of the pole? (Round or Square)
  • What is the pole made of? (Aluminum, Fiberglass / Concrete, or Wood)
  • If there are existing fixtures mounted on the pole, what is their wattage, and how many fixtures are mounted per pole?
  • What mounting type will you need? (HTM offers both Adjustable Split-fit
  • Mount and Adjustable Direct Mount options)
  • Do you have an existing 2-⅜” vertical tenon mounted or any adapters if using an adjustable split-fit mount?
  • What is the voltage needed for the fixture?
  • Will a photocell or dusk-to-dawn sensor be needed for the fixtures?
